The Annual Cutthroat Tunno Pumpkin Pie Competition is upon us and the smack talk has started with my nephew, Chris. If I knew how to, I’d share his first Facebook taunt with you, but you get the point. Humility is not his strong point. But this IS competition and what better way to stir up a rivalry than with attitude and a winning pie recipe? (We’re all just jealous Chris.) Who wouldn’t compete for a beauty of a trophy like the one you see above? When you come from a Mom (my mom) and Grandmother who thought it was OK to bribe her grandchildren with dollar bills to vote for her pie, you begin to understand.
I hope the younger family members will enter again this year. Last year, my grand-nephew, Nate, (he’s the little guy on the left) was narrowly defeated by Chris, (the beaming guy on the right). But Nate took matters into his own hands. He went home and created his own trophy, a replica of the coveted trophy.
I love Nate’s trophy on so many levels. I love that he remembered so many of the details on the actual trophy. I love that he went to the trouble to sit down and make it with his own little hands, and even included the feathers on the turkey!
I think the thing I love most about it is that this five-year-old didn’t go off and sulk because he didn’t win the trophy he wanted. He just sat down and made his own! I think we can all learn something from that. I think I’ll go start crafting my own audiobook and voiceover awards, right after I make my turkey stuffing.
Speaking of turkey, I wish you the Happiest of Thanksgivings!
I am so thankful for you my wonderful readers! Thanks for taking the time to read my blog, tell your friends, and re-post my stories on Facebook. I hope my posts have brought you as much happiness as you bring me with your comments and loyalty. You people rock.
Now go be thankful for the amazing abundance we have in our lives and eat yourselves silly. Love you all!

November 25, 2015 at 7:56 pmThat’s hysterial. I had forgotten Nate did that. For my 1st time EVER, I am actually bringing a pie. It won’t get entered in the pumpkin pie contest, but no biggie. I guess one might call it the “other” category, a miraculous entry,. . . .LOL! Hopefully everyone will be sick enough of tasting pumpkin pies & they will actually like it! Okay, after a few drinks then. But who cares. 😉 Happy Thanksgiving everyone! 🍗🍺

November 27, 2015 at 9:57 amYou are a little off on this one. Matt said Nate went home and had a meltdown until he could make his own trophy. Elissa said he was uncontrollable until the trophy was complete. Yours was a nicer version! November 27, 2015 at 1:54 pmAh, well. I stand corrected. Apparently there was quite a bit of sulking, but I supposed five year olds are known to do that. Bottom line is: He did make his own trophy and that’s the point. I need to stop writing and start working on my trophies too. Where are my scissors and crayons?

February 1, 2016 at 8:37 pmFran, I really like how the five-year old taught everyone how to feel better. I like how trophies can make everyone feel special. I think they’re great for rewarding hard work. I like it when all the kids get participation trophies for city league sports. Not everyone can be the next Lebron James, but everyone can feel good about themselves.
